Petition for New General Election Hits 600,000 Signatures: Labour Government Introduces ‘Complaint Punch Card’

In the latest turn of political absurdity, over 600,000 disgruntled citizens have signed a petition demanding a fresh General Election, just 143 days after Labour’s victory in July. In response, Labour has unveiled a groundbreaking new initiative: a Complaint Punch Card, allowing voters to accumulate points for every grievance aired.

Petition Gains Traction, Frustration Builds

The petition, started by Michael Westwood just 24 hours after Chancellor Rachel Reeves delivered the Budget, accuses the government of “going back on promises” faster than a politician dodging a question. “Another General Election is the only way forward,” declared Westwood, while nervously refreshing the petition’s webpage every three minutes.

Criticism has centered on Labour’s Winter Fuel Payment cuts and a new inheritance tax targeting farmers. One protester at Westminster summarized the mood: “They promised the sunlit uplands, but all we got was drizzle and a tax on hay bales.”

The Punch Card of Democracy

As public discontent snowballed, Labour responded with a bold move: the Complaint Punch Card. Each citizen is allowed to lodge five complaints before earning a free apology from a junior minister. At 10 complaints, participants are entered into a raffle to choose the color scheme of Rachel Reeves’ next PowerPoint presentation.

“It’s a modern, inclusive way of engaging the electorate,” said a government spokesperson. “We may not have their trust, but we definitely have their data.”

Polls Show Labour Taking a Tumble

Polls now show a sharp decline in Labour’s support, with Scottish Labour slipping further behind the SNP. One Survation poll revealed 88% of Scots believe they will be worse off under the Budget, while the remaining 12% were too busy Googling “dual citizenship options.”

The Opposition Watches Closely

Meanwhile, Tory MPs have been spotted sharpening their pitchforks in anticipation of capitalizing on Labour’s missteps. A Conservative insider quipped, “We left them a financial black hole, and they fell straight in. It’s almost poetic.”
